Car Lockout Service in Palm Beach & Broward County
Keys locked in the car, in the trunk, or the fob died with the doors locked? LockFox is a 24/7 mobile locksmith that comes to your vehicle and uses non-destructive entry methods to get you back in.
Child or pet locked inside? Call 911 first.
If a child, a vulnerable adult or a pet is locked in a vehicle, call 911 right away — before you call a locksmith. A closed car in the South Florida sun can get dangerously hot fast, even on a cloudy or “cool” day. Emergency responders can get there and act immediately. Once everyone is safe, we can help with the car.
Car lockouts we handle
Keys locked inside
The classic lockout — keys on the seat, in the ignition, or in a bag behind locked doors, sometimes with the engine still running.
Keys locked in the trunk
Keys dropped in the trunk or cargo area while loading groceries, beach gear or luggage.
Smart key locked in
Many push-to-start cars try to prevent locking the fob inside, but it still happens — especially with a weak fob battery or the fob in the trunk.
Dead battery, locked doors
Power locks and the remote won’t work with a dead car battery. Your fob’s hidden emergency blade may open the driver’s door (see the checks below).
Lost keys and locked out
If the keys are gone, not just locked inside, you’ll need a new key as well. See car key replacement.
Broken key in the door
Part of the key snapped off in the door lock. We extract it and cut a new key — see broken key extraction.
Before you call: quick checks
- Try every door and the rear hatch or tailgate. One unlocked door solves everything.
- Use the emergency blade. Most smart keys have a small metal key inside. On many cars, the driver’s door keyhole is hidden under a small cap on the handle.
- Check for a spare. If someone can bring a spare key from home, that may be the fastest option.
- Check your app. Many newer vehicles have a manufacturer app or connected service that can unlock the doors remotely, if it was set up before the lockout.
- Check your coverage. Some auto insurance policies and roadside plans include lockout service or reimburse it. Keep your receipt either way.
If none of that works, call or text (754) 328-1958 with your vehicle and location.
How we open a locked car
Modern car doors are packed with side-impact airbags, wiring and window mechanisms. That’s why the coat-hanger or slim-jim approach is a bad idea: it can damage wiring, weather seals or window regulators and end up costing more than the lockout.
A professional car lockout uses non-destructive methods instead — typically an inflatable wedge to create a small, controlled gap at the door frame and a long-reach tool to press the unlock button or pull the handle, or picking the door lock itself. The right method depends on the vehicle, and the goal every time is getting you in without harming the paint, seals or glass.
Keys locked in the trunk
If the cabin opens, the trunk usually follows: many cars have an interior trunk release, and many sedans have fold-down rear seats that give you access. If neither works, the trunk lock itself can sometimes be picked. Tell us where the keys are when you call so we come prepared.
What to have ready
- Photo ID. We verify that you own the vehicle or are authorized to access it.
- Registration or title. If it’s inside the locked car, tell us — it can be checked against your ID once the door is open.
- Year, make, model and color so we can find the car and bring the right tools.
- Exact location: beach lot, garage level, store entrance, or gate code for a gated community.
What affects the price
- Time of day (late night, weekend or holiday)
- Where the vehicle is
- Vehicle type and security features
- Trunk vs. cabin lockout
- Whether you also need a new key made

Car lockout FAQ
What should I do if my child or pet is locked in the car?
Call 911 immediately, before calling a locksmith. A closed car in the Florida sun can become dangerously hot quickly, and emergency responders can act right away.
Can you unlock my car without damaging it?
We use non-destructive methods, such as an inflatable wedge with a long-reach tool or picking the door lock, chosen for your specific vehicle. They are designed to open the car without harming the paint, seals or glass.
My keys are locked in the trunk. Can you get them out?
Usually. We open the cabin first, then use the interior trunk release or fold-down rear seats. If neither is available, the trunk lock can sometimes be picked.
What do I need to show you?
A photo ID and proof that you own or are authorized to use the vehicle, such as the registration or title. If the registration is inside the car, let us know when you call.
Can you open a push-to-start car with the smart key inside?
Yes. The entry methods are the same. Once you’re in, check the fob battery — a weak battery is a common reason the car didn’t detect the key before locking.
What if I lost my keys and I’m locked out?
Then you need entry plus a new key. We can handle both in many cases — call with your year, make, model and VIN if you can see it through the windshield.
Does insurance cover a car lockout?
Some auto insurance policies and roadside assistance plans include lockout service or reimburse it. Check your policy and keep your receipt.
Are you available 24/7?
Yes. LockFox handles car lockouts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across Palm Beach and Broward County.
